The Redoubt was established in 1999 by Michael and Faye Henderson, who wanted to "buck the trend" (which was to open Irish, English or Belgian themed bars) by opening a Kiwi bar with a local history theme, hence the Name Redoubt.
Redoubts were fortifications or camps used during the local fighting between the Maori and Europeans in the 1800's. The dictionary states a Redoubt as a safe haven or a place of refuge, which is quite apt really.
The Redoubt offers an excellent menu which changes seasonally utilising the freshest of produce. Te Awamutu's first and only entrant in the Monteith's Beer and Wild Food Challenge, we've achieved special recognition and award for creativity (2004). Best Food and Beer Match (2005) and in the fine dining category for the first time, were nominated finalist in all four categories (2006). In 2007 WINNERS of the Regional category. In 2010 we were named 13th in the top 20 which then led us to be apart of the top 5. We also received a Gold Accreditation in the Corbans Food and Wine Match in 2007 and voted Five of the Best in the Waikato in the Waikato Times for 2003 and 2009.
We trust you will enjoy your Redoubt Experience
Kind regards
Mick and Faye Henderson
